The Problem:

The urban environment contains a vast expanse of concrete, asphalt, and non-porous surfaces, all of which contribute to stormwater runoff during heavy rain events.  This runoff often ends up in watersheds as it was never given the chance to percolate through soil and recharge groundwater.  Throughout the course of its travels, the runoff accumulates pollutants, debris, and nutrients which results in nonpoint source pollution and eutrophication of our waterways.

The EcoWall™ Solution:

Vertical gardens offer a new option to help promote stormwater management.  They have the ability to act as vertical rain gardens and treat runoff from small storms.  They capture, divert,  and reduce runoff before it reaches sewers and surface waters, cutting down the non-point source pollution that reaches our waterways.  At a glance, the EcoWall(TM) allows entering water to attenuate and filter through the EcoWall(TM) panels.  The additional runoff can also be captured and stored in rain water tanks for future irrigation of the green wall.  Once treated, the water can then percolate into the ground and recharge groundwater.  Ultimately, the vertical garden can help to reduce the peak loads on drainage systems, reclaim unused water, and also recycle treated stormwater back into a building for other public uses.
